Sponge Experiment
Aim of the Experiment:
To find out the amount of water needed to keep
a sponge moist.
Apparatus:
· 3
sponge
· 1
measuring cup
· 1
pail/basin
·
Tap
water
Steps of Experiment:
1. Fill
the measuring cup completely with tap water.
2.
Pour
the tap water into the pail/basin.
3.
Repeat
Steps 1 and 2 until there is enough water for the sponge to be completely
soaked.
4.
Fully
submerge the sponge in water, and hold the sponge down for a short period of time
(e.g. 10 seconds) to ensure that the sponge is thoroughly soaked.
5.
Remove
the sponge from the water.
6.
Drain
the sponge of all excess water, so that it is moist but not wet and dripping.
7.
Fill
measuring cup with water from the pail/basin.
8.
Pour
the tap water away.
9.
Repeat
Steps 1 and 2 until pail/basin is completely drained of water, keeping count of
the number of times the measuring cup is filled.
10. Subtract
the final amount from the initial amount of water to gain the amount of water
keeping the sponge moist.
11.
Repeat
Steps 1 to 10 with the remaining two sponges to ensure accuracy of results.
12.
Collate
data.
