Thinking about it now, I suppose that is because most of the claims made in the proposal have already been proven by research; my group has been very meticulous in using only information that is accurate and proven. Thus, there is very little to prove, much less form into an experiment.
Although, I did manage to come up with a list of questions...which are gradually, one by one, rejected:
- Decrease in decontamination of water through different filtration systems.
- This was thought of with reference to our space settlement's water filtration system. It would be good, in my opinion, if we could actually give a figure to show the decrease in decontamination of water. However, the main problem is: I have no filtration system...
- Relationship between air pressure, elevation and speed.
- The lifts used in the space settlement are extremely quick, but then again, I can't be going onto lifts day in and day out - people would think I have severe problems with my mind.
- Also, as very rightfully pointed out by one of my group members, there is a problem of measuring air pressure while inside a lift. I'm not sure how the air pressure device works, but I don't exactly think I can bring that device with me into a lift, day in and day out.
- Strongest structure against external pressure.
- This idea was shot down mainly because OMers are already doing it. And I don't have very good hands-on skills.
- Humidity relative to plant growth.
- There's a problem of the quantifiable variable of "humidity". I'm not sure how to quantify it. On the other hand, I'm certain that someone out there in the wonderfully large world has already found the relationship between humidity and plant growth.
- Effect of cyclonic separation on air purity.
- I should have a quantifiable factor of "air purity", which I don't.
- To attempt this research question, I would require cyclones for cyclonic separation, which I can get by moving my hands to make structures and whatnot. Unfortunately, I didn't exactly get a good grade in my D&T classes. I think that should say something about my hands-on skills, as mentioned above.
- Ideal pH for hydroponics.
- I thought this was really good, since I could borrow a filtration system from one of my acquaintances, and this particular filtration system is able to separate water into different pH levels. Unfortunately, I realised the pH should be neutral at around 7. Plants can't grow in too alkaline or acidic environments, after all.
- Type of biodegradable soap with relation to plant growth.
- I'm not sure how I'm even going to quantify plant growth...texture? Colour? The beautiful shimmering fruits that sparkle in the sun?
- Quantifying things aside, I don't have a green thumb. Which sometimes make me wonder why I'm attempting the research question I'm attempting now. More on that in my next post...
- Type of soap with relation to level of decontamination.
- Same old, same old - quantifiable factor?
- Also, I don't think my mother would be very pleased if I go to her and say, "Mom, can I buy several bars of soap for my experiment?" Not that they are very expensive, but it's just wasteful since my family is very conservative and refuses to use any other type of soap other than the Green Tea soap we're currently using.
- Type of surface best at radiation shielding.
- This is one of the best questions, I suppose, if we're thinking in terms of my space settlement. Space radiation, see? But the thing is, we can't just fly to Fukushima to get the radiation we need. So this is struck off.
- Change in air composition with different types of plants. In other words, do different types of plants affect change in air composition?
- Truthfully speaking, I wanted to do this, but I don't think I can measure air composition with the type of equipment the school currently has. I currently have a very negative opinion of it since it seems the school always don't have the equipment I need. Like a laser that shoots out radiation beams. That would certainly be useful for Q9.
- Change in humidity with different types of plants.
- In other words, do different types of plants affect humidity? As said above, quantifiable factor of humidity is not known.
- Plus, I don't know how I'm going to get different types of plants. My family isn't fond of gardening. Those poor plants would surely be dumped in the chute once I'm done experimenting on their miserable souls.
- Change in blood pressure with elevation.
- I can't believe I came up with such a silly question. Well, not exactly silly, but we all know that answer, right?
- Effect of plants on heating and cooling.
- I wanted to find out the percentage...actually, why did I reject this again? Oh, yes, it's because the first time I nurtured a plant was also my last time when I killed a cactus by drowning it. So that makes me wonder why I'm even trying to grow plants for my current research question.
Not very promising, when I look back again, but I have more questions! That are not related to my proposal, sadly...
- Effects of different types of music on blood pressure.
- That would be good...if I had a good sample size. I don't think anyone would want to listen to different music and have their blood pressure taken every time they finish listening to some music.
- Plus, my siblings have they A' and O'levels respectively. It certainly isn't good to disturb them by inviting tons of people to my house.
Hmm...so as of 14 May, 2012, these were the questions I came up with...
